Data Science Peer Advisors: 2025-2026

Our peer advisors are upperclassmen who are happy to meet with any students who are interested in the Data Science major or have already declared. The peer advisors can answer questions from a student’s perspective, discuss the Data Science program sheet, help with class selection and sequencing, and talk more about their experiences.

Peer Advisors are available to work with students during the autumn (weeks 3 - 10), winter (weeks 2 - 10), and spring (weeks 2 - 9) quarters. In-person office hours are offered Monday through Thursday in the NEW Computing and Data Science building (CoDa), Room W139 (also known as The Data Base). Virtual office hours are offered on Fridays with this Zoom link. Either way, no appointment is necessary -- just drop in!

Peer Advisor Office Hours Schedule: Autumn 2025

Jean Hoang

Hey, you guys! My name is Jean Hoang, and I’m a junior from Houston, Texas majoring in Data Science (B.S.) with a minor in Ethics and Technology. I’m especially interested in the intersection of advanced technology, mathematics, and the brain through the computational neuroscience track. I know that Data Science can seem a bit intimidating at first, but I’d be happy to chat and share my experiences navigating the major. Whether you have questions about classes, internships, or just want to learn more about the field, feel free to reach out—I’d love to connect! Outside of academics, I enjoy training in Chinese Martial Arts, working or studying at cafes and boba shops, exploring new restaurants, and even a bit of window shopping. Looking forward to meeting you and talking more about Data Science or any of our shared interests!

Crystal Peng (she/her)

Hiya, I'm Crystal, a junior studying Data Science & Social Systems (Education track) and English from Canada! I love the way the DS program cross-cuts through so many different fields and departments, allowing for a wide exploration of applications and lenses to problems. Personally, I'm interested in applications in education and techniques in digital humanities. Talk to me about double majoring/minoring, being an international student, interdisciplinary classes + research, combining data science with the Humanities. On campus, I'm an RA, a Creative Writing peer advisor, and OCT at the Hume Centre. Apart from work, I produce shows for Asian American Theatre Project, watch games of curling, and knit!

Ricky Rojas (he/him)

Hi all! My name is Ricky and I’m a senior from Santa Clarita, CA. I’m pursuing the Mathematics and Computation Subplan of the Data Science B.S., along with an Honors Concentration in Computational Neuroscience. Additionally I’m a part of the Notation in Science Communication program, currently completing a coterminal degree in Statistics, and a TA for DataSci 112. One of my favorite aspects of the Data Science program is how interdisciplinary it is. Not only have I had the opportunity to build a rigorous computational foundation, but I’ve had the opportunity to explore different domains, engage in exciting research, and refine my soft skills. Outside of class, I love board games, hiking, baking and social dance. Feel free to come talk to me about anything, whether it’s finding research opportunities, course planning (fun fact: I’ll have completed 3/6 of the different capstone options by the time I graduate), or anything else!

Anna Siamionava (she/her)

Hey hey! I’m Anna, a senior from Minsk, Belarus majoring in Data Science & Social Systems with a focus on international security. I’m especially passionate about how AI is reshaping civic life and international relations, from algorithmic governance to its role in different political regimes, and I’ve explored this through research with CISAC, the Ethics in Society program, think tanks, and consulting work. Feel free to chat with me about research, civic tech, policy careers, combining majors with minor, or navigating the major generally. I’m also happy to talk about life as an international student, especially coming from a very different educational background, as well as anything from academic planning to adjusting to Stanford. Outside of class, I love yoga, fashion, stand-up comedy, and reading about history, plus I’m always on the hunt for the best espresso tonics wherever I go!

Eli Tostado (he/him)

Hi, I’m Eli! I’m a senior from Southeast Los Angeles, CA majoring in Data Science (BS) on the Quantitative Finance Track. I’ve really enjoyed how the Data Science major builds an array of knowledge and expertise across disciplines, so that the skills I’ve learned can be applied to whichever career I choose to pursue. I’ve used these skills to help optimize social systems, understand human behavioral patterns, analyze trends in fiscal policy and map unique sports outcomes. In my downtime, I enjoy swimming, reading manga, hiking, teaching, and the Chili’s Triple Dipper. Feel free to come talk to me about finding the right track, picking out classes, the job market, where you can apply data science, or anything else that comes to mind!

Duru Unsal (she/her)

Hey everyone! I'm Duru, a senior majoring in Data Science & Social Systems on the education pathway. I’m especially interested in how data-driven approaches can improve education and deepen our understanding of how people learn. At Stanford, I do research in the SPARK Lab at the Graduate School of Education, and this past summer I interned on the Personalization Data Science team at Sephora. Outside of academics, I love anything that qualifies as a “grandma activity”—crocheting, reading, drinking tea, and doing puzzles. Feel free to come chat with me about anything, whether it be class planning, finding research or internship opportunities, or just life in general!

Flora Yuan (she/her)

Hello! My name is Flora, and I’m a senior from San Diego studying Data Science (B.S.) on the Mathematics and Computation subplan with a minor in Music. I am passionate about leveraging data, statistical inference, and machine learning to drive data-informed business decisions. This past summer, I was a Data Science Intern at Meta, specifically looking at churn and resurrection for Instagram Reels! The summer before, I was a Data Science Intern at Dropbox investigating Replay virality. Outside of the classroom, I like singing (classical!), going on scenic hikes, and trying new restaurants! Feel free to chat with me about data science internships, picking out classes, getting involved with music on campus, or life at Stanford in general!
