Prof. Dennis Sun Takes the Lead as New Program Director

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Dennis Sun has been named the new Director of the Program in Data Science, including the Data Science B.S., Data Science & Social Systems B.A., and Data Science minor.

Since Dennis was appointed Associate Professor of Statistics at Stanford in early 2023, he has had an active role in the Data Science Program. In winter 2023, he debuted Principles of Data Science (DATASCI 112), a class he developed as a hands-on introduction to the field, which quickly became a gateway course for the majors and a hit among students. He also had a key role in designing the Data Science Practicum (DATASCI 192 A/B) alongside Mallory Nobles, the Associate director for the Data Science & Social Systems B.A. In addition, Dennis serves as a faculty advisor for the B.S. and a mentor for the Summer Undergraduate Research Program through the Statistics Department.

He has started his new role ahead of the 2024-25 academic year, which is a particularly exciting time as we prepare to move to the new Computing and Data Science (CoDa) building in early 2025. We look forward to the continued growth of our program with his leadership.
